Buddha's smile (charcoal, 22"×15")

For me peace is best symbolized by a Buddha visage. Content, meditative, subtly smiling. Relished bringing out the expression evoked by the eyes, the smile, and the tilak.

This one was a challenge in terms of details and expression and I am satisfied I could at least follow the basics. The hair, the worn out jacket, the unkempt hands with accessories were a delight to create. The biggest charm is the smile in the eyes!

Felt a range of emotions while creating it - humility, pride, eagerness, impatience, bliss, challenge, and above all a uniqueness of the work because I found it so different from my other images.

A media picture inspired the work - second in a series ('Bonding') - in which the texture of the experience-rich wrinkled skin and the stick was a delightful challenge to bring out.
